Symptoms and Treatment for Chikungunya
Similar to Dengue, there is no vaccine or treatment to prevent Chikungunya virus. The only preventive way is to stay away from mosquitoes that carry this virus. The most common symptoms of Chikungunya are fever and joint pains which usually begin in 3-7 days after being bitten. Other symptoms are headaches, muscle pains, rashes and swelling around joints.
These symptoms and their intensity vary from person to person. A person normally starts recovering within a week but the pain in joints can last for months. Once a person has been infected, he or she may get this disease again only in rarest of circumstances. Treatment of chikungunya involves taking rest, drinking plenty of fluids and taking pain killers as per doctor’s prescription.
Even if the infected person is consuming medicines for other reasons, they should always consult their doctor for consumption of these medicines while infected with chikungunya. The spread of chikungunya is similar to that of the dengue virus, it is transmitted from the same kind breed of mosquitoes and in similar fashion. Use natural repellents and stay safe from mosquitoes.
